Beachy

Timeline: 2023-2026
Platforms: iOS & Web

Overview

Beachy provides booking and food and beverage technology for resorts, hotels, beaches, pools, and other hospitality venues. Its platform helps guests reserve amenities while enabling staff to manage orders and deliver service throughout a property.

I worked across the customer-facing online booking experience and the Food & Beverage (F&B) app used by hospitality staff. My work included modernizing the visual design, improving navigation, introducing new operational features, and designing an integrated AI chatbot that allowed guests to submit orders and requests and pass them directly to servers.

Challenges

An outdated booking experience
The customer-facing interface needed a more contemporary look and feel that better reflected the quality of the customer base.

Inconsistent UI patterns
Existing UI had become less cohesive as features were added over time. Simplifying navigation and improving usability across the product was overdue.

Service workflows
Guests needed a more convenient way to make requests, while servers needed a way to receive and act on those requests within their existing workflows.

Research / Approach

I began by reviewing the existing interfaces, evaluating established UI patterns, and identifying areas where the experience could be simplified or made more consistent.

I focused on understanding how guests moved through the online booking flow and how hospitality staff navigated the F&B app while managing orders and service. This review helped establish priorities for the redesign, balancing visual improvements with practical workflow enhancements.

Rather than simply refreshing individual screens, I approached the work as an opportunity to improve the overall product experience, from navigation and information hierarchy to the interaction patterns used throughout each application.

Design

I translated the review findings into targeted improvements across the guest and staff products. This project reinforced the importance of treating a product redesign as more than a visual refresh (very little of the internal tooling was refreshed visually other than an update to iOS 26 – liquid glass format).

Improving the experience required considering two distinct audiences: guests looking for a straightforward booking process and hospitality staff who need to manage service efficiently. By combining updated UI patterns, improved operational tools, and an integrated conversational experience, I helped create a stronger foundation for both experiences.

Streamlined navigation: Reviewed and refined existing navigation patterns to reduce unnecessary complexity and create a more consistent experience between mobile and tablet.

Added assigned seating and coursing: Designed support for assigning seats and organizing orders by course, helping staff manage more structured fine-dining and service scenarios.

Modernized online booking: Refreshed the customer-facing booking widget with a cleaner, more contemporary UI designed to make reservations feel intuitive and polished.

Designed an integrated AI chatbot: Created designs for an AI-powered assistant (Sandy) that allowed guests to place orders and submit requests conversationally.

Introduced an F&B dashboard: Designed a new dashboard to give staff a an overview of touchpoint times and the ability to easily access/respond to Sandy AI chats.
